Post-Edinburgh Blues

Three and a half days of bonny, bonny Scotland...and already I miss it. Fantastic break, albeit a little short.

Edinburgh city is gorgeous. It's easy to walk and navigate, and the castle is gorgeous! Holyrood Palace and park are gorgeous too. We didn't walk up Arthur's seat...time constraints were the cause, and not the fact that's bloody huge!

We also took a jaunt up to the trossachs in the highlands...Loch Lomond to be exact about the location, with a stop at Stirling Castle. Fantastic day-trip...all done with Rabbie's tours. Highly recommended...especially the part where the serious Germanic type walked out onto some rocks to pose for a photo and ended up IN the loch!!! Hilarious! So too was our guide, Peter, who made the tour alot of fun.

Other 'tours' included the tour down to Mary King's Close ... the underground remains of old tennement houses...and a brush with the MacKenzie poltergeist on the 'City of the Dead' tour. Both were a lot of fun!

613 photos later...and I'm still sorting through them...it's such a photogenic country!

My only complaint was the hostel - St Christopher's Inn...it was in a fantastic location on Market St, right beside Waverly Bridge, and the staff were great...but our twin room was tiny with bunk beds shoved in, it was right next to the boiler room which was very loud, and 2 out of the 3 nights the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Not good! And it was expensive but...location, location, location!

All in all, an excellent trip with lots of happy memories!

And now it's back to reality.
